Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman is descended from a disciple of the illustrious musician Thyagaraja and was immersed in music by his father V R Gopala Iyer from whom he imbibed the essence of Carnatic music.
His emergence as a solo violinist and composer was perhaps inevitable after being a child prodigy, giving concerts from the age of 12.
He has accompanied such great vocal virtuosos as Ariyakkudi Sri Ramanuja Iyengar, Semmangudi Sri Srinivasa Iyer, Sri G. N. Balasubramaniam, Alathur Brothers, Karaikkudi Sambasiva Iyer.
This live recording dates back to 1985 and took place in Mumbai. It features Karaikudi R Mani on Mridangam, violin support from Lalgudi G J R Krishnan and G Harishankar on Kanjira duties.
