“I see that Ed Royale and Enne guys are back, that should cause some ripples among you.”
So says Alan Brown of the pair who have brought out a load of funkin’ 12″s on Innvision Records and are an obvious choice for a remix of a track called ‘Funky Bastard’. Having said that, the Wolf Meyer Orchestra and Parov Stelar original version, with vocals by Lilith (aka Eva Klampfer) and some soaring horns, is old skool b’stard funkin’ itself. Ed Royal & Enne’s next release on Innvision Records is ‘It’s Hip To Be Square’ which I’ll be looking out for.
From a Fly point of view, the A and B sides have been transposed as ‘Next To Me’ not only features Mr. Hubert Tubbs (see also Tower Of Power, Stereotyp, Makossa & Megablast and Dub Club) but also a remix by The Dining Rooms.
Those experimentalists in ambient soul bring Italian jazzin’ to the table but once again, the original version is enormous, horns and a Grant Green style guitar lick. With Mr. Tubbs! Wolf and Parove are just spoiling us now. Fans of Mystikal’s ‘Bouncin’ Back, Bumpin’ Me Against The Wall’ (way back in 2001!) will get the Jazz Jive dance band groove immediately.
With this 12″, Etage Noir have found a worthy follow-up release to Just Banks’ ‘360 Degrees‘. ‘Next To Me’ is what I’ll be groovin’ to this festive season as my attraction to this is “chemical, it’s physical” and while money can’t buy you everything, this is a great tune worthy of anyone’s hard earned shillings. It’s natural as beefcake!
Get it in your charts.
