On 1st August 2006, Ghanaian music will officially enter the digital age thanks to Zongo Junction. On that day, 13 of the most recent albums from top Ghanaian stars like Kwabena Kwabena, Batman and Obour will be released for download on iTunes, CalabashMusic.com, Napster, Rhapsody and all other major music download stores worldwide
For the first time, fans of new Ghanaian music all over the world will be able to find and legally download songs for their MP3 players and mobile phones at the click of a mouse.
Speaking from Accra, Zongo Junction director Kwame Farkye commented, “This is the first stage of a new era in Ghanaian music. We are extremely proud to be working with such incredible talent”
In the US, downloads increased by a massive 77% in the first half of 2006, making digital music a multi-billion dollar industry worldwide. “People everywhere are now using the internet to find and buy new music. We are exposing Ghanaian artists to that audience, and playing our part in developing a brand new export market” added Farkye.
