Not a great lover of the American spelling, especially as these guys are from Coventry, but their musical roots are very much over the other side of the puddle as they hit the street with another slice of Latin, funk n’ disco with this new 12″.
After a series of four class act 7″ singles plus ‘Batidas Latinas’ and ‘Jigsaw’ being picked up on the compilation Dirtybeatbreakinfunkandhiphop, as the edge towards their debut album, their variety of productions from “organ climax” to “cool jazzy beats” to “flute’n'bass” take on another turn as they come back with another couple a killer tunes.
For ‘Disque O Heights’ think funky Crown Heights Affair or similar with dust sucked out of the grooves. Space-age synth and a Latin break just puts it into all into dancefloor perfection for its six minute duration. So if your going down a 80′s inspired Look A Little Further route, Wild Style or a pure ‘Inside Out’ Odyssey remake, this track fits the bill.
And taking that Latino NY spirit to it’s Ricoh sponsored Fania homeland, ‘Pa Coco Solo’ is a great b-side. If it ain’t Buena Vista Social Club, it’s Jelly Jazz and so much more. Expect this to be big on the Brazilian scene with DJ Cliffy and his mates.
Color Climax have recently been on tour with DJ Format (he who spotted Abdominal, see HERE) and this single comes out before the debut album next month, Plug It In. Sound like pretty good advice to me (but get the 12″ for the dum-a-pellas!)
Hot after the Wild Style gig with The Cold Crush Brothers to celebrated Breakin’ Bread’s 9th Birthday, it looks like their 10th will be as good as recent like minded labels Stones Throw, Sonar Kollecktiv and Big Dada.
