Bullion – Say Goodbye To What

You know what they say about hot as toast? Well, is that hot and has made it onto ‘Ones to Watch 2010′ – trust me, he’s the gold standard.

If you’re unfamiliar with the 2 CD set of Ones To Watch 2010, apart from Theophilus and Egyptian Hip Hop, all you need to get to know is Bullion and his forthcoming single on One-Handed Music.
That’s if you don’t know Bullion (aka Nathan Jenkins) already as his reputation has been growing rapidly over the past couple of years or so. I last saw him and his buddy Paul ‘For You And Me‘ White crate diggin’ at the after their joint DJ set. But it’s been a while since the fantastic Bullion remix of Mr Beatnick‘s ‘I Know All The Bitches‘ and in the meantime, we’ve had to wear out his Beach Boys/J Dilla tribute release Pet Sounds: In The Key Of Dee (even to non-Beach Boy fans, this is a fantastically clever cover version/pastiche) and the excellent ‘Young Heartache’ EP.
But if you are new to Bullion, prepare yourself for ‘Say Goodbye To What’ that’s a cross between the “psychedelic cosmic love from California” al a Byrds/Jefferson Airplane (as favoured by Carlos Ni?±o) and The Strange Dreams Of Paul White. You don’t have to subscribe to Shindig or be a fan of leftfield hip-hop like A World Without to get into this one.
On the flip, it’s a bit a Daedelus-ness pop-beat called ‘Crazy Over You’ which we’re bound to go wild over in the FLY office.
If you were intrigued by the Bullion remix of Amadou & Miriam’s ‘C’est Na Bon‘, you’ll find these two new tracks even better and not only that, available in 7″ and download versions early in the New Year.
What with the banking crisis of 2009, next year put your trust in Bullion as, you might say, he was made for these times.

I have just discovered the wicked brilliance that it Bullion. I can’t get enough and it’s only been 3 or 4 weeks since i discovered the “Young Heartache” EP by accident.
I know Djs tend to be guarded about the songs they sample, but I wish someone out there could help me find the track used in “Young Heartache”. The vocal in the beginning sounds so much like Green Gartside from Scritti Politti, but i have mostly all of SP’s releases…Help me please!?
