Flevans – Hold On

is another musical genius who manages to transcend different genres and eras and if you’ve been eagerly anticipating the follow-up to the fabulous Unfabulous album, you’ll have to hold on a little longer after the single ‘Hold On’ comes out.

The single, ‘Hold On’ featuring Sarah Scott and comes in 3 versions; the album, instrumental and the a capella. All are great and I’d definitely should be able to do something with that a capella as it shows off the vocals of Sarah Scott (who has previously worked with Flevans on his appropriately entitled Make New Friends album, Jon ‘Political Sun‘ Kennedy and has been remixed by Dr. Rubberfunk!) ‘Hold On’ is very much in the Alice Russell club sound, heavy on the beat and some nice piano twinkle.
The bonus track, ‘Hold No Water’ is also taken from the upcoming album. It’s not the vocal hook sung by Flevans himself that gets your attention so much on this one but the dancefloor friendly sound that seems to have a heathy Natural Self/Tru-Thoughts stable influence (definitely a good thing) and a thumping bass.
So we find the new Flevans is far more ‘song’ influenced than previous ‘sample’ preferences which gets me more excited about the album, 27 Devils. It’s out on 18th May and promises to be full of dancefloor delighting instrumentals and glorious, hook-laden songs for equally playing out and home listening pleasure with more vocals from Sarah Scott as well as featuring Shona Foster. Can’t wait!
