If you’ve had any interest in modern bass line music the last couple of years then there has been no escaping the justifiable rise and rise of the floppy haired Sheffield youngster, Toddla T
From humble, but musically obsessed, beginnings, a couple of early dancehall flavoured 7″s and then his freakishly successful Ghettoblaster mixtape, ” suddenly propelled Toddla to global dj gigs and remix demands from an incredible array of artists all looking to cash in on this unassuming youngster’s unintentional, yet very real, cool.
Earlier this year 1965 records released his debut album and now we have his major league mix cd debut with this, the latest instalment of the Fabric Live mix series.
Kicking off with a bit of ‘Love Action’ from Philly and the dulcet tones of long standing MC and sparring partner Serocee the mix then heads full steam into bass line heaven. Toddla, able producer that he is, supplies several exclusive tracks, a couple of ‘Stars on 45′ style mini medleys and some cheeky edits whilst the rest of the CD contains a who’s who of modern music relevance – Skream, Drums of Death, Deadmau5, Busy Signal, Geneuus, Youngsta, Untold, Caspa and fellow Sheffield sonic terrorist Oris Jay to name just a few.
Now all that talent wouldn’t mean too much if it was put together all sloppy like but Mr. T know his Ortofons from his Stantons and whips up a seamless rolling mix that sucks you in and leads you on a journey through dancehall, drum and bass, funky, fidget and dubstep. You are never far away from a bit of lyrical content whether it is auto-tune nonsense or rude boy Jamaican outbursts via some of the UK’s finest mcs and even the more considered tones of poet Benjiman Zephinia.
