Not only is Nneka ‘Walking’ on this one, producer/DJ Farhot slips in a sample of ‘(Um,Um,Um,Um,Um) Curius Mind’ by Curtis Mayfield (as performed by Northern Soul legend Major Lance).
You’ll recall Nneka from ‘God Of Mercy‘, ‘Victim of Truth‘ and ‘The Uncomfortable Truth‘ (as played by Gilles Peterson on his recent World Cup Soundclash Special the other week).
Another Peterson favourite, Jay Electronica joined Nneka on the remix of ‘Walking’ that’s featured on J.Period & Nneka’s The Madness ‘(Onye Ala)’ mixtape which is better than the Farhot d’n'b remix here (for a real d’n'b remix, try The Prototypes’ version of Jammer’s ‘Better Than‘).
Now whilst on the subject of Peterson, not only is he a big fan of Jay Electronica (his interview show last month was definitely one of the best of late) and Gilles played The Hackney Colliery Band today, who will be appearing at the Simon Goss celebration on Thursday (see HERE for details of this event)
‘Walking’ is taken from Nneka’s second album No Longer At Ease from last August and on the back of the previous single, ‘Heartbeat’ she won a MOBO Award for ‘Best African Act’. Watch this girl walk!
