For those of you in the Bay Area, you’ll know that the will know all about the Yerba Buena Discos team, if only from their huge 20th release by Homero Espinosa featuring Allegra Bandy – and now they are back with some equally fine soulful deep house to enjoy!
This is an impressive follow up to the summer groove of ‘In The Sunshine’ that saw the inspired pairing of the the label’s Homero Espinosa and vocalist Allegra Bandy back in the spring. To keep us going through the last stages of this Indian summer now the nights are closing in, here’s their latest good time deep house soul groover, ‘Then You Smiled’.
You don’t need me to tell you how good the original mix as we’ve got a soundcloud link below for your listening pleasure and you can hear that killer vocal and bassline for yourselves.
It’s hard to know what to do on the remix when the original track is so good but label co-star Allen Craig’s comes a close second with his up-tempo effort. The combination of San Francisco’s David Harness and Chris Lum as HarLum Muziq (did you see what they did there?) take the remix to an odd Fleetwood Mac-esque rumour period – perhaps it’s the Californian buttery vocals (which could be a good thing?) but be warned if you’re listening on the earphones whilst riding your bike as it sounds like a dog was barking which is a little disconcerting.
The next time I’m on Delectabeats, it’d be tough not to play the original but Chillin’ Music’s Rob Slac puts in a shift that would give Andy Garvey and his percussive sidekick Cass the proverbial vinyl hots – one for Nang Records to investigate this side of the pond?
Espinosa finishes off the set himself with his dub version but if I were him, I wouldn’t let Ms. Bandy too far out of my sight as she makes us smile alot!
