Tammy Garcia - 'Mexico City'

When DJ Martin Morales declares Tammy Garcia as a "hot artist", it's time to take note and where better to start than with the new 7î on Carbon Logic

And I do urge you to do so as flamenco is an overlooked genre, well it has been by me to date. To be honest, one of this year's biggest 12"s, 'Jubita' by Megablast, has a flamenco inspired hand-clapping section in it. I haven't mentioned this in any of my reviews as I thought it might put folk off. Clearly it hasn't. How stupid Hectic! [Side Note: There's 'Jubita' remix 12" due out soon].

In self-defence, it probably didn't help at the time seeing Robert Elms on the TV doing one of his travel shows in Andalusia. You know the stuff, all traditional skirts, high heels and him going over the top.

So, getting back to the point. Carbon Logic has produced a single by Cordoban Tammy Garcia that's messin' with the Flamenco puristas.

'Mexico City' is an excellent mix of modern influences, accentuating the Arab style and mixed up desert disco. Traditional acoustic guitar backs Tammy's vocals with electronic vocoda dribble straight outta The Chemical Brothers' box of tricks.

The other side is called 'Que No Me Da Pa Na' and it's more of what you would imagine with the castanet clicking and the acoustic guitar to the fore. But with a dancefloor friendly bass and electronic twiddles it's got more than enough to keep it interesting.

Tammy's got a raw voice in the rap with Spanish loveliness when she sings. There's an album to come out later in the year so definitely one to watch. I'm certainly going to be checking out this flamenco insurgence, hopefully at a club near you soon.

Check the Carbon Logic web site as her photo is on the front page at the moment. Tammy will be live on the 7th March supporting Rodrigo y Gabriela at The Sussex Arts Club

Double A side single 'Que No Me Da Pa Na' and 'Mexico City' on 7" vinyl single out now (CARBON 005)

What Others Say
"An osmosis of Latin soul, North African & Arabic melodies and jump-up breaks, Tammy Garcia walks the gypsy trail straight into the future".
"The combination of Carbon Lodge's tuff bass heavy dancehall beats and Tammy's Flamenco vocals and song writing make for her sound to be one of the most original and club addictive in recent years" Martin Morales - Futuro Flamenco
"Ms Garcia drops tracks that combine a distinct Balearic flavour with tight beats and a shitload of heart and soul." Mr. Trick - Rhythm Incursions
