So, after their recent appearances at the Triptych Festival in Scotland and two nights at the Jazz Café at the start of the month, there's a couple of 12"s coming out with a plethora of remix action. The alto ego Jack Splash is a "cross between Andre 3000 and Prince" which is not a bad call if you're after a big bank balance. To sidetrack for a moment, last year Prince topped the Rolling Stone list of Money Makers. With earnings of $56.5 million, he beat Madonna into second on the back of the album Musicology and the tour. "Lose your body girl, lose control. This might be the Last Song" sets off as a club anthem and, as if to assure us, "like Bootsy, like Sly, like Jimi, like Prince, like George," they've come to tear the roof off (the sucker). The Radio Edit cuts out the profanities but the lyrics flow better on the Album Mix and the Album Instrumental gives you that full old-skool-synth disco boogie. The Bugz in the Attic mix is not as broken as you would expect. They've added some Prince-type guitar snippets and deep bass boogie synths. They've included respectful hints to Bowie's, 'Golden Years' and a touch of Clinton's, 'Atomic Dog' for us old folks to reminisce. We know from Chicken Lips', Clicks, Acid n Disco they just love to disco and, just to make sure, there's a nod to here to the Yellow Magic Orchestra and Giorgio Moroder. If that's not enough, the Skylab Remix goes for the current hot fad for metal-funk-rock in a guitar riff disco drum of Death From Above 1979 style. The First Man (Adam M) mix takes a more relaxed approach while Simon James and Dan Hastie, as Projections, nail it with the 'Car Wash' handclaps. The 'B-side' is called, 'U Can Have It All' and is just goes to show they can do the slow soulful end-of-the-night-last-song-smoocher number when the mood takes them. Thirteen funky slabs of delight. Hard to say which will prove to come out tops at the next guitar-ridden disco. So check them all out, don't lose your soul ya'll and Party like it's 2005. I say, "Give up the funk!"
