Latin Splash 2005 - Clapham Common, 1 July '05

It’s coming up fast, Latin Splash featuring Spanish Harlem Orchestra and Alex Wilson among loads of others is just a few fridays away…

latin splash 05

London’s largest Latin carnival in the Park is back this July 01 and it promises the best yet. Prepare to put your dancing shoes on for 5 hours of non stop partying, cocktail drinking, dancing and lots more, in the heart of South London. Now in its third year Latin Splash is London’s most famous tropical party celebrating the vibrancy and flavour of Latin music and dance. This summer the festival organisers have kept the infectious vibe of 2004 by combining some of the biggest names in Salsa with artists that are pushing the boundaries of Latin music into the mainstream.

Recent Grammy award winners Spanish Harlem Orchestra from NYC need little introduction to those in the know and are a live act that are not easily surpassed nowadays, alone they are more than worth the admission price. However, they will be ably supported by top UK salsa band Alex Wilson’s R&B Latino Project an outfit who as the name suggests fuse the R&B and salsa genres to mind blowing effect.

Also on the bill are top dance troupes Tropical Gem from Milan and Swing Latino from Colombia. Plus as usual there will be indoor parties in the Salsa UK, Barcardi B-Bar, Strongbow and Hed Candi Arenas.

This year, Amnesty International is supporting the event, creating awareness on human Right isues around the world. Go to www.amnesty.org.uk for details.

So for one infectious summer’s evening Londoners can be transported to another world. This is an event for those who know how to party Latin style!

I’ve been doing searches up and down the internet for months and came across the date of 1st July 2006 too. I am a bit scepticle of this because July 1st is a Saturday and all previous Latin Splash(es) have been on Fridays.

In addition nothing has been listed on Latin Splash’s website.

One of the key Latin Splash promoters is involved in pulling together a large congress in August, does this mean Latin Splash isn’t happening???

Help, does anyone know the definitive answer from a confirmed source? I’m really looking for to it!

Bad news, just checked with the chap who did last year’s press and it seems it is not going ahead this year after all.
