MOD X vs. Paul Murphy in Paris! |

Mr. Murphy will be MOD X’s guest at OPA in Paris on July 29th. MOD X’s reputation is gaining ground after his appearances in Poitiers, Marseille (3 Nights at La Friche la Belle de Mai!) and various clubs in Paris this year. Not, only are the live gigs spreading the word, add to that the posting of his superb DJ mixes on Queep, Jazz Picante and DJSets (see links below). ‘The Quest’ was just one of four tracks that MOD X sent Paul and he picked out ‘The Quest’ as the one for the Murphy remix treatment. This proved to be a winner as the original and remix made Tunes.co.uk’s single of the week when it was released as a 12”. What can you expect? Along with the usual Latin, broken beat, nu-jazz, afro-funk, futuristic soul, boogaloo, ragga, house, trip hop, soul, tribal and perhaps a little fusion, we’ve now reached the stage for MOD X to play out some of the tracks that will feature on his forthcoming album [get there early as MOD X is due on stage at 11pm]. Similarly, this is hopefully the stage Paul has reached so that he’ll have some preview material from his long awaited album? Gilles Peterson got his hands on a remix of Jazz Room in the Glastonbury in the Dance Tent the other week and Zelkjo Kerleta at Cosmic Sounds has been teasing us with the prospect of something really special on his radio show, Paul’s tribute, ‘Mr Cosmic’. Keep an eye out on this link below. Here’s a provisional tracklisting for the album: Soul Call, BudapestChaChaCha, Seven Samurai, Baghdad, Withnail & I, Herbie Mann, Mr Cosmic, Jazz Room, The Trip. Whilst Paul’s DJing CV goes back a long way and is headed ‘Legend of the Jazz Room’, this will be his first Paris gig. So locals and fans of Eurostar should take the chance on to see him on July 29th as he’ll take you through till dawn. DJ Celine from Marseille completes the line up and she will be first up with her own brand of house music set . DJ Gerry Hectic has had to back out of joining Paul due to unforeseen circumstances. I am particularly gutted about this as it would have been my first European gig (never mind just Paris). Hopefully, I won’t cock-up on the return fixture in London. FLY is proud to be associated with this event (see flyer) and many thanks to Dorothée at Ice & Spice Records for all her help. Hi would really like to get in touch with Paul Murphy - I worked for him in Clerkenwell in Kings Cross many years ago. He will remember me as we used to hangout quite a bit and went to many set’s with him in London and Manchester. Friends Ray Stevens & Andrew Main. He can reach me at the email address above. Would love it if you could pass on my details, many thanks, keep the feeling. Vince
