Bossa Futura - 'Sol y Luna'

It’s been a long wait but at last, Bossa Futura’s fantastic debut 12” is out…

Bossa Futura

Back in June, Bossa Futura were appearing at Impro, “Bossa Futura are a new Brazil-centred duo of sometime Nucleus guitarist Mark Wood (credits also include João Donato, Hermeto Pascoal and Phil Manzanera) and his Colombian wife Anamaria on vocals. They will be performing some Brazilian classics supported by double bass and drums plus original material in advance of their first release, ‘Sol y Luna’”’.

Whilst the Sol has disappeared for this year, this track still sends tingles down my spine. The combination of the ‘spacey effects’, Latin percussion, guitar, the trombone solo and the luscious vocals make this an all out winner.

On the b-side, ‘Inside Your Head’ is a downtempo Latino film score with scary ‘It’s inside your head’ spoken interludes. It’s got a hip hop beat and Anamaria provides the main vocals. After some sweet guitar licks, it breaks down into a scrap towards the end before coming back with some bouncy bass and some Grant Green in Rio guitar. It’s a strange one — there’s even a few bars of the old 60’s hit ‘Sunny’ thrown in for good measure.

‘Single of the Week’ on Tunes.co.uk with samples of each track (see link below). Have a listen and let us know what you think.
