The Fusion Experience - Scaramunga

You’d be forgiven for thinking Glasgow’s current music scene consists only of Franz Ferdinand. But not so…

The Fusion Experience - Scaramunga

You can’t avoid the new fab four and even the city’s soul-jazz club, The Buff, has hosted a party for the boys. So don’t be surprised if we find some jazz-funk remixes from You Could Have It So Much Better on Domino any time now.

In the meantime, The Buff’s newly-launched record label release thier first 12” by The Fusion Experience which is apparently ‘inspired’ by the infamous psychedelic voodoo sequence in James Bond’s ‘Live And Let Die.’

When you talk of: “Latin-jazz piano and Brazilian-inflected live percussion and crashing cymbals as slightly crazed werewolf-like howls echo through the mix, shortly before fearsome Hammond organ” you know it’s the type of Afro Art/Schema inspired dance floor action that Hectic is into.

However, it’s the b-side remix that’s caught my ears. The highly rated Sidewinder has remixed the track on a ‘Afro Remake’ and has gone jazz funkin’ clavinet style. You may still be playing Sidewinder’s album, Resolution which contained single ‘Ego Riot’ (that got the Yam Who? treatment on 12”) or his excellent remix of Break Reform’s ‘And I’ (which has just been included on XFM’s Nick Luscombe and his compilation, Flo-Motion Volume 2, see links below) or even ‘The Adventure ’ on Nick Matthew’s Slice of Paradise CD.

So you can almost smell the quality. Buff haven’t stopped there either, they’ve also signed up a seven-piece band, Everything Treatment. There’s a forthcoming album and some great reactions already from friend of Fly, Simon S (Break Reform/Abstract Blue Recordings) “The Everything Treatment album is class. Great variation in the tracks and very well produced.” Look out for the new Everything Treatment 12” available from 28th November 05, featuring ‘The Theme From…’, ‘Sola’ and a remix of ‘Sola’ by Square One.

So if you love your soul, funk’n’jazz, here’s a label and club to be aware of.
