Gilles Peterson's Independent Mix Night - Dwight Trible+The Heritage Orchestra / Jade Fox / Robert Mitchell's Panacea |

One of the of the highlights of last year was Dwight Trible’s visit to the UK and to round off the year, Gilles organized a ‘reenactment’ of his Montreux Jazz Festival performance with The Heritage Orchestra. The Heritage Orchestra were well on form as they had just spent three days recording their first album for the irrepressible Peterson on his new label. I caught a couple of words with Gilles about it at Shiftless Shuffle, where he seemed a little apprehensive about the prospect and returning to being the label boss after giving up Talkin’ Loud years ago. I don’t think he’s got too much to worry about as the Heritage Orchestra finished a close second to Roots Manuva in the Worldwide Session of the year in his 2005 awards. The Heritage Orchestra will be ‘updating’ the Britannia Jazz appearance with Chris Bowden again at the Birmingham Jazz Festival on Friday 3rd February. The great news from LA is the there are plans to bring Dwight’s Living Water project to Europe this coming Spring. It’s about time more folks got to hear the album, highly recommended. And more hot news from the West Coast is Don Mizell (he of the famous Mizell brothers) is hoping to get Santana involved in Dwight’s next Living Water project together with Jazz legend Pharoah Sanders. This is truly awesome; see below Gilles recent interview with Larry Mizell after he picked up the Worldwide Lifetime achievement award on behalf of the Mizell Brothers. I own up, I wouldn’t be the Hectic I am today if it wasn’t for ”Los Conquistadores Chocolates’ and ‘Shifting Gears’; ALL time tunes. The equally hot news is that Carlos Niño is putting together another Build An Ark project in the next few months. Whilst on the of subject of Build An Ark, apparently Kindred Spirit have stopped pressing copies of the album Peace With Every Step . This seems mighty odd to me, so snap one up if you see one going. So Dwight and The Heritage Orchestra finished off last year. What’s in store for the next couple of months while Peterson plays the tunes along with Karen P (ex-Worldwide co-producer), Mal Fogarty and Buzzard Buzzard on ‘visuals’? Next week, on the 26th January, the line up is Jade Fox, Dolly Daggers & Aronas. This is followed by Robert Mitchell’s Panacea & Delph in February. It’s going to be a little different for Robert and Deborah compared to the Ritzy Café gig. And that’s not all for Robert and the band as they’ve also been booked to do a Worldwide session for Gilles at Maida Vale. Hopefully, that will be broadcast soon. This is a bit of a win-double as the F-ire Collective have also been booked. Links: |
