London based label, Far Out Recordings has just released a 12” remix of ‘Roda Piao’. This a track pulled off their Brazilian Soul album which I said at the time was a ” fusion jazz-dancers choice.” Label boss Joe Davis is no fool when it comes to picking a remix and Spiritual South (famed all over for the Paul Murphy ‘Jazz Room’ Remix) are an obvious choice.

On the b-side we find a dub version that is also excellent. Plus there’s Roc Hunter’s funk house favela remix of ‘São Pedro’. Previously, this version appeared on Far Out’s 100 album celebrating their 100th release no less!

Reactions from those who know a dance floor have been very positive. “Massive tune, staying in my box for all of 2006” (Gilles Peterson) and “If this don’t work the crowd, nothing will” (Mad Mats, Raw Fusion). Certainly good enough to keep the carnival spirit going throughout the year and a big tune.

But there is more good news. A new album is out Pure - Best Of The Far Out Years which is a compilation of Azymuth’s music for Far Out Recordings from their most recent albums between 1995-2006. The Spiritual South remix of ‘Roda Piao’ is on a bonus CD along with other ‘fan’ remixer remixes by Mark Pritchard, Jazzanova, 4 Hero, London Elektricity and Roni Size.

And in addition to the tour dates, the other good news is Azymuth are now recording a brand new album for Far Out Recordings at their Copacabana studio in Rio de Janeiro.
