Just one look at the tracklisting and you’ll see why such influential dance DJs will be instantly attracted to this 12”. Already big in Japan, like it’s predecessor, The Sound of Club Brasil Sampler 2 is Latin jazz reinvigorated for the mid-noughties. Immediately you think, ‘Jungle Kitten’ can’t be reworked, certainly not bettered. Who would be so bold (stupid?) enough to try that one? Well Tomas Improta and Finn Peters did and they’ve done a brilliant job and great credit to all concerned that they pulled it off. You’re not going to be able to afford the original by Manfredo Fest even if you could find it on ebay, so pile onto this one. Brilliant jazz dance anthem in the truest sense of the word. ‘Vera Cruz’ is another classic and whilst the vocal version is excellent check out the instrumental where Jessé’s horn really gets an airing The other track on this one is ‘Cravo E Canela’ that first appeared on The Ipanema Set album, but can the new album outperform it? Could well be as this is an awesome sampler. Already appreciated by the usual DJs at the top of their personal Sugarloaf mountains, Gilles Peterson (Radio 1), Patrick Forge (Da Lata, Kiss FM), Russ Dewbury (Jazz Rooms, Juice FM) and Kevin Beadle (Solar Radio); you’ll be knocked out by this.
