Onward International’s 3rd birthday party (27th July), sees the launch of the Mukatsuku Record label. Friend of Fly, Nippon Nik explained to us that Mukatsuku means ‘shiiiiiiit!’ / ‘frustrated’ / ‘angst’… and was originally chosen as a name of a club night before being adopted as the name of his PR company.

In addition to Nik’s Japanese connection, he’s part of the Club Brasil project with the Ipanema Set and if there’s something in-between the Latin and Japanese, he’ll be covering it either on his Radio Shows with Nigel Prankster (with Forwards/Backwards) or on the ‘Wah Wah 45s’ version, Konnichi Wah Wah with Dom Servini (both highly recommended listens of course - see links below).

Onward International is the club night Nik runs with Koh Uemura (Café Zun Zun/Vibe Bar and a top guest at Saturn Radio this month). Their reputation is such that recent guests have included DJ Sets from luminaries like Mark de Clive Lowe and Bugz In The Attic’s Seiji, live acts like Japanese vocalist Ayuco and Especial’s Bakura) and Japanese Jazz dance specials.

There’s a £1 discount off the £3 entry (free before 8pm) with the flyer but you’ll want to keep them as when it comes to ‘The Flyer As Art’, Onward International is one of the best.

I’m eager to get more information from Nik himself, but until then you can guarantee Makatusuku’s cat will be spinning some serious Brazilian, hip-hop, boogie, Latin and good time vibes. Excellent news this and definitely one to follow in an onwards international type way.
