MTV base Uncensored - African Youth Issues Under The Lens

Youth and music channel MTV base (DStv Channel 88) is launching a lively new TV series which aims to get young Africans talking candidly about common issues which all young people have to face as part of growing up.

‘MTV base Uncensored’, a weekly studio-based discussion programme, encourages interaction from young Africans from all over the continent, letting them have their say, uncensored, about the emotional and physical hurdles that are part of their daily lives, including love, sex and emotional well-being.

‘MTV base Uncensored’ has been conceived as a truly interactive forum designed to get to the bottom of key issues facing today’s adolescents and young people; individuals participating in the show will share their personal stories with the MTV base cameras, and also get their questions answered by an expert trained in debunking mis-conceptions and de-mystifying existing taboos.

Former computer programmer turned TV star, Sizwe Dhlomo will host ‘MTV base Uncensored’, assisted by an expert on sex and emotional issues who will act as programme ‘counsellor’, and a roving reporter who will travel throughout the African continent, including Zambia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal, to tape interviews and segments for the shows. The final presenter lineup will be announced at the end of March 2006.

‘MTV base ‘Uncensored’ is a 16-week series which will be shot ‘as live’ in front of a studio audience. MTV base viewers across Africa will also have the opportunity to interact with the show, asking questions on the mtvbase.com website, or via e-mail, SMS or telephone.

‘MTV base Uncensored’ will air weekly across Africa on MTV base via the DStv pay-TV bouquet from Thursday 4 May at 21:00 CAT.

‘MTV base Uncensored’ is produced in association with UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, and Family Health International’s YouthNet as part of their efforts to disseminate positive messages about HIV & AIDS and reproductive health issues among young people.

I’m lov’n the mtv uncensored show! Its intertaining and yet also educating…however I have some reservations on some of the coments. I agree partially with the ABC concept but the last one is a compromise that can be ruled out unless it is modified. Someone on the show said A is abstinence (which I personally would best recomend), B is Being faithful (which is good), but he goes on to say if u can’t then C - use a condom. I say there is a difference between animals and humans, particulary dogs and people in the sence that the latter can control their hormones.

AIDS can never be fought if we allow space for such compromise. I say if you are young (say 18 and below ABSTAIN), if thats too hard a task for you then get married and STAY FAITHFUL to the person of YOUR CHOICE.

Youths of Africa lets keep it real, by slashing out the C, unless we tranform it to commitment. To either your partner or your dreams…they are worth it
