On the eve of their prestigious Lincoln Center in New York City, which will welcome the sounds of Northern Africa this summer, we hear from two of the region’s most popular singers: Idir and Najat Aatabou. Idir What do you hope to share about the Imazighen people and Berber culture in America? You’ve done many hip hop collaborations with younger artists- why has it been important for you to connect with the younger generations? How do you feel about performing at Lincoln Center, and what do you most look forward to about being in New York? Najat Aatabou Have you faced any challenges throughout the course of your career as a Chaabi singer? Your song “J’en ai marre” was an international hit. Why do you think it was so successful and why was it important for you to sing a song about the frustrations of women in your culture? What excited you most about this American tour in New York and Chicago? “A Night in the Maghreb” will take place on Saturday, July 18 in New York City at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall. |

COMMENTS My friends and I loved it, from the very first second to the end every thing was perfect and every one was so happy singing and dancing, I really liked to see berbers gathered in a nice and fun atmosphere and what I liked even more is to see non berbers getting interested in our culture. I know a bunch of people who missed the event they were so upset and I think they deserve a second chance!! We definitely want Idir and Nadjat back (preferably soon lol). Really happy reading this news about an amazighy Icon with music superstar Idir, He really represents the amazigh culture and music EleGantLy. I ADORE HIM.
