These are really fantastic packages. They explore contemporary music and culture from areas of the globe, and feature a 60 minute DVD of music and contextual footage, a full-length CD, an essay booklet filled with history and information on each region, and an exclusively-designed map created by The National Geographic Society to enhance the visual knowledge of the region. The newest two titles are called Spirit and Mandela, building on the first three releases, Africa, Baaba Maal and Vedic Path. Spirit explores the sounds of the Sahara and beyond, and takes a journey into the world of the Mediterranean and Middle East, following the culture, history and beauty of one of the most fascinating areas of our world. The 11-track CD features music by Bel Canto, Tinariwen, Gabrielle Roth & The Mirrors and more. The package includes a 48-page book filled with colorful photos and art images. The National Geographic Map details amazing and intriguing aspects of this often misunderstood region. Mandela Offers a look at one of the worlds most revered human rights figures from his early days to his election as South Africa’s first black president, the feature-length film produced by Jonathan Demme was nominated for the 1997 Academy Award for Best Documentary. A 26-track CD soundtrack includes South African legends Hugh Masekela, Johnny Clegg & Savuka, Vusi Mahlasela, The Manhattan Brothers, Brenda Fassie and many more. The 48-page book and National Geographic Map chronicle the political and cultural history of South Africa. To win a package of all five for the holiday season (and effectively opt out of re-runs of ‘Only Fools and Horses’), just answer the following question: On which island was Nelson Mandela famously imprisoned? A - Baffin Island |
