Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Although containing few new pictures for those who possess the outstanding Malick Sidibé book edited by André Magnin, this celebration of his work is beautifully presented and represents the culmination of the photographer's rise to global prominence since he started showing his work internationally in 1995. The book will be released in February, 2004. It contains album sleeve sized prints from both his acclaimed studio sessions of the 60s and his documenting of the night lfe in Bamako. There is some new work her including a series of prints of people taken from behind, which is a direction he seems to be really interested in. There is also a very touching interview with him where he talks about his influences and his approach to photography. For him the important thing is not the technique but the spirit in which the photographer interacts with his/her subjects. Basically a beautiful book but if you are only going to buy one, I would recommend Malick Sidibé edited by André Magnin. Co-published by the Hasselblad Foundation and Steidl Links: |
