Nneka - 'God Of Mercy'

Nneka returns with the release of second single, a new mix of one of the top tracks on her début album.

You may recall Fly’s editor was taken by ‘Africans’ on Victim Of Truth and, on the new single she finds strength in her ‘God of Mercy’.

Not that surprising as she grew up singing in church and school choirs in Nigeria. It’s a heavy load being described as the next anything, but when you’re compared to Lauren Hill or for older folks, Neneh Cherry, it must weigh heavy on your shoulders.

This new mix by Goetz Botzenhardt drifts in and out of gospel, R&B, soul, reggae and hip hop. It sounds like a mish-mash but he’s done a great job and DJ Farhot’s production is at least as strong as the first single, ‘Uncomfortable Truth’.

Mr. Botzenhardt did the knob twiddling at the Roundhouse Recording Studios in Camden Town and has worked on multi-million selling artists including the Pet Shop Boys and in his distant past he remixed the Faithless classic, ‘God Is A DJ’. He’s definitely made this a stronger track as there’s something of a Faithless style going on.

Whoever is you’re personal God, this is a powerful track even though at the end, I felt a bit like Dave Allen, “Goodnight, thank you, and may your God go with you.”
