The big track on the Future Classic Attractions EP was the oversexed synth squelch of ‘Mutual Sigh’ by Deepchild vs. Gauche. The good news is that it’s turned up as the lead track on the new Deepchild album, Lifetime.

The CD is based on house but drifts off into dub, electro, funk and jazz to keep everyone happy. Deepchild (aka Rick Bull) works in Sydney and there also some beach life chill-influences going on.

There are a couple of ‘real’ vocal tracks. Andy B has worked with Deepchild before on ‘What’s Going Wrong?’ and there’s some apocalyptic imagery in the lyrics of ‘Blackness Of The Sea’ even if it comes with waves lapping on the shoreline Efx.

Like the title track, it starts dubby and eases into the groove on the synth whilst ‘Sometimes It’s Just A Concept’ fits a twisted electro reggae funk groove with ping-pong happenings, one for the head nodders. But the twisting doesn’t stop there; try the go-go funker ‘Greifswalder Straße’. You can see why with tracks like these and the more Kraftwerk-House of ‘Always & Forever’, Rick Bull has come to the attention of Freerange Records.

And before you go, ‘Reconnect’ features Buchman rap on a seashore jazz-funker with exquisite flute solo.

With the artwork looking like a cross between It Becomes Infectious and Amsterdam’s logo, it’s looking good but really, is that a cover of ‘Yours Is No Disgrace’ by Yes? Ras Roni gets in the yard with Jon Anderson’s lyrics? Thankfully not but for those of a certain age, the co-incidence will be too much I think, currently my favourite of the lot!
