Approaching the now vast and impressive Sense World Music catalogue of Asian music can be daunting, but this new release is one of their most accessible and enjoyable recordings to date

Underpinning the recording is a mesmerising percussion section featuring the dholak (a barrel-shaped drum), khadtal (wooden blocks) and tabla, providing a trance-like rhythm every bit as compelling and powerful as that of their northern, Sufi neighbours (made famous by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan).

The next element is provided by Grammy award-winner Vishwa Mohan on the distinctive Mohan Veeda (Indian slide guitar) playing off against the Rajastani string section. Now add the sweeping vocals of Anwar Khan and you have all the elements of a musical fusion that absolutely kicks it from start to finish.

Better yet, the group is set to tour this bold and powerful musical fusion. While many Sense recordings demand and reward concentrated listening, this release will grab you from the start and lift your spirits as effortlessly as an eagle climbs the mountain thermals.

Now the only question remains is how are they going to keep Ry Cooder from rushing the stage when he hears a part for slide guitar.
