Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Mi Sueño is everything we have come to expect from Ferrer: passionate, tender, simply arranged with an irrepressible swing and his smoky voice seeping into to every crevice of the music. It was recorded in Havana and for the most part sticks to the simple set-up favoured by Ferrer including Manuel Galbán on guitar and Cachaito Lopez on bass. At times other sounds are introduced to great effect such as the clarinet on the cumbia inspired Copla Guajira, the gentle strings on Si te Contara and the delicate harp accompaniment of Queriéme mucho. Sadly Ferrer died three weeks before recording was due to end in August 2005 at the age of seventy-eight. He first retired over a decade ago but was coaxed back to record the Buena Vista Social Club album in 1996. It was that recording with his slender frame adorning the album cover that brought him international fame - before then his name was known only to afficionados. Well into his 70s already, Ferrer toured Europe, released a solo album, recorded with the Gorillaz and even picked up a Latin Grammy. On his deathbed he asked that his dream album be finished; Mi Sueño is the realisation of that dream, a fitting final testament and a record that should ensure Ferrer’s legacy as one of Cuba’s greatest singers.
