Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. En casa deeply expresses Paz’s longings to go home and the torture caused by having been away with lyrics such as (“Nada major que volver a casa….volver, volver….duele entender el tiempo y el porque”) “Nothing better than going home…return, return…it hurts to understand the time and the whys.” But fear not, this album consists of more than just inner turmoil and tortured longings. Tracks such as ‘Cubano’, where Paz expresses his pride over his roots in Cuba are very reminiscent of the songs of anticipation and hope sung by the infamous Buena Vista Social Club and in particular the legendary Ibrahim Ferrer. The sleepy ‘25 aƱos’ (25 years old), singing of a lost love, with whistles to compliment the laid back feel of the track softly lulls you into the fantasy of napping on the front porch on a sun-drenched hammock. This album, as admitted by Paz is mainly autobiographical, seeking a fusion between the stories of his childhood and the way in which he sees things today. Paz really has laid himself bare with tales of yearning and lost loves as well as tragedy and woe. It may not be to everyone’s taste as the roots of this album obviously lie with the old school Cuban sound of artists such as the Buena Vista Social Club but, hopefully, Paz never intended for this album to be a chart-topper as its charm is in its sound taken straight from the classic genre of unexploited Cuban music. |
