Gerry Hectic

Features, Reviews and Events Contributor

Gerry Hectic's roots are in 1970s Birmingham. He has also lived in Bournemouth, Balham SW17 but mostly, Walthamstow E17. With a short career as club DJ over before it started (see Hoe Street Cinema), the boy Hectic forgot the Soho nite club scene and headed for the anonymity of real ale Pubs and East London CAMRA. Excessive drinking and smoking replaced the punk, reggae and samba-jazz of his youth. Things didn't look up until he met Mrs. Hectic. The pair settled down in East London and produced two daughters.

Much later, after becoming a vegetarian and having quit smoking, we now find Hectic on the broadband of modern music with a newfound enthusiasm to catch up on missed years. Picking up from the metaphysical days when DJs Paul Murphy and Gilles Peterson left him to carry their 12"s and dusty LPs to Dingwalls and the Electric Ballroom in Camden, he's now dedicated himself to finding the perfect beat for the 'Jazz Room' of life. Each week he reports on what he has uncovered for 3hedz in The Gerry Hectic Review. Fly has been kind enough to host some of his longer electronic scratchings.

Stay peaceful, keep creative.

COMMENTS

Gerry,

Please can you tell me where you got the tour dates from on the Azymuth Gigs?

i don’t see any of the gigs on the venues sites.

I am so disapointed, because I saw them last year in Bristol and they were amazing. Does this mean I have to wait another year to see Azymuth!

Can you find out what went on and email me.

Thanks

Hi Gerry,

You wrote an article about the live record and Dvd of Djamel Laroussi in 2005. Did you receive the new CD “3 Marabouts” that we sent to Fly Global Music on April 18th?(we didn’t mention any name)

Thanks a lot for your answer.

Hi Gerry, I read you article about Nick Luscombe moving to Resonancefm - just for the record we reach as far as zone 6, sometimes further! This is due to a fundraising drive that afforded a spanking new ariel, all paid off well. Listen to us on your way to Stanstead!
