Global SoulJah

James used to be quite a normal member of society but then years of wandering around the world, buying more dusty old records than was probably strictly necessary and hustling a living from various music-related jobs sowed the seed for Global SoulJah

After repeated battles with the English climate whilst selling music on Camden Market he also decided to move to the blue skies of Barcelona and is never going back, seguro…

You can now check the Global SoulJah and BBE Records radio show weekly on Scanner 96.6FM in Barcelona and also on Planet Radio in Tenerife. This gives him a potential reach of 4 million people although admittedly most of them have pretty bad taste in music, probably think he has as well and don’t bother to listen.

His latest venture is music consultancy and he is presently programming a great world music in-store soundtrack for a chain of clothes shops in Spain, Italy and Portugal. James Bond villain like plans are slowly emerging to gradually inflict his musical tastes on the brands and shoppers of the world.

James also promotes occasional parties in Barcelona attracting 500 lunatics at a time who dance and forget all their worries to the sounds of people like DJ Food, Bonobo, Drumagick, Scott Nixon, Martelo, DJ Moneyshot, Saffrolla, DK, 7 Samurai, Nouvelle Vague, Seiji, Dj Wrongtom, & King Cannibal as well as local talent.

He is also a club dj playing what could be described as “Where music of black origin and global grooves meet a techno future” which gives him lots of options, just how he likes it. What is guaranteed though is he will be dancing whilst he’s playing the records and there is a fair chance you will be as well.

He also like to constantly moan about the authorities in Barcelona who seem to think that it’s a good idea to close down as many musical establishments as possible and allow the city to be taken over by characterless hotels, poorly-designed, cheaply-constructed flats and new empty office space. Apart from that he reckons the city is great.
