Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Jez’s love-hate relationship with music began when his mother strong-armed him into piano lessons aged four. By the time he was sixteen, he had also learned classical singing and percussion — at which point he gave it all up and learned to play guitar badly. He holds an MMus in Ethnomusicology from the School of Oriental and African studies, where he specialised in Indian classical music and Hindi. Since then he has played in several bands, including London’s own CrazyBread, and composed music for TV and film. He loves listening and dancing around to funk, soul, hip hop, reggae, Indian film music, drum’n’bass and jazz (“can you dance to jazz?”, asks his girlfriend). His anoraky career highlight so far is discovering that Lee Perry’s ‘Bird In Hand’ is a cover of the Hindi song ‘Milte Hi Aankhein’ from Raj Kapoor’s 1950 film ‘Babul’. He is currently living and working in Bangalore, India. |
