Zoe Street

Zoe is Fly's Jazz Editor but is just as happy interviewing left-field hip hop artists and reviewing songs from before the grave...

Zoe Street

Zoe's desire to be at the cutting edge of music started early. Born in '79, with spiky, mohican-esque dark hair, (and complete with safety pin through the nappy) she was immediately known as 'Punk Baby'.

She spent her formative years with headphones on, working her way through her dad's vinyl collection, scribbling about her favourites on scraps of paper...and not much has changed, the now (allegedly) grown up Zoe is happiest going to gigs, listening to releases, talking to bands, and then writing about it!

A former actress and model for photographers such as Nadav Kander, Zoe has sinced shunned the cans of Elnett hairspray in favour of her true love - writing features and reviews for various online and print music magazines such as Notion, BBC Music Interactive, www.gigwise.com, and she also pens celebrity and arts based features for various lifestyle publications.

Music-wise there's a special place in her heart for dub queens The Slits, The Specials, Buzzcocks, Ian Dury and The Blockheads (well, she is the Punk Baby...), and she has a penchant for 1950s jazz and swing, especially Louis Prima.

Zoe is thrilled to have been given the opportunity to write for Fly. She also gives masterclasses in jazz hands on request.

Listen to her splendid punk / ska/ new wave radio show 'The Pogo Sessions' on Live365.com (search Album Zone). Her shows often feature dubtastic Fly favourites Dreadzone. You can't argue with that.

COMMENTS

Hi Zoe. Jemma told me about the website. Looks cool. Remember, well written bad reviews are always more interesting than good ones. And don’t worry about reaction from bands. They’re all just pitifully desperate and narcissistic wannabes. Keep up the good work. Phil.

Hi Zoe,

Well you’ve already heard my comments about your shows on The Album Zone. Just wanted to let you know how refreshing your shows are on RTI. Its pretty rare that I would write to a presenter personally but you are an exception. Brill.

Good on you.

Barcley.
