360 Degrees - Reclaiming Independent Music 28.05.10

If you’ve just recovered from the Camden Crawl on the first May Bank Holdiay, here’s something to look forward to for the late May Bank Holiday and it’s totally in the round for a mere £10!

This May’s Bank Holiday Friday will be filled with the best of the British independent music scene. CIFD presents 360 Degrees at The Roundhouse in Camden on Friday 28th May 2010, with cutting-edge live music from 7pm and dancing till late. And all that for just a tenner!

The summer’s first major weekend begins with an array of acoustic talent from the outdoor terrace spreading through to the Torquil Bar followed by an amazing line up of home grown artists in the Main Space including: the Swing-Hop duo The Correspondents; Big Band meets Hip-Hop Lazy Habits; the incredible singer/songwriter and cellist Izzi Dunn and headliner, Mr. BISH BASH BOSH himself, Bashy, while classic garage duo DJ Luck and Mc Neat spin into the early hours.

CIFD are a group of London based City University students, studying Music Events Management and Production and Community Radio and Television on the Creative Industries Foundation degree and who work in collaboration with The Roundhouse in Camden.

360 Degrees champions mavericks reclaiming 360 Degrees of independence for their music, approach and delivery. It is a chance for the music fans, industry and artists to come together under one roof to celebrate the innovators who are driving the industry forward and to raise awareness about new industry models being put into practice today.

The Correspondents started out in November 2007. In Leeds Mr. Chuckles had been tinkering with the sounds of Hip-Hop, Jazz and Dance music for several years; meanwhile further North in Edinburgh Mr. Bruce exerted his vocal dexterity over Drum ‘n’ Bass, Breaks & Funk. They have shared stages with the likes of Florence & The Machine, Lily Allen, Mika, Little Boots, VV Brown, Bat For Lashes and Basement Jaxx.

Lazy Habits hail from Hackney and are vehement defenders of the 7″ vinyl format. They’re cross genre, combining big band and Hip-Hop samples to give you elements that will sound strangely strange and oddly abnormal. In the summer of 2009 they could be seen at pretty much every festival going, including Secret Garden Party, and hosting the Jazz World stage at Glastonbury. They played Shepherd’s Bush Empire with Mos Def, and we thought we’d better catch them before they rocket off into superstardom.

Izzi Dunn - There are no restrictions to Izzi’s sound. Her voice is fearless: vulnerable, empowering and traditionally soulful. However, her skills as a cellist and arranger, continually honed since childhood, are an indispensable aspect of proceedings. There are no sampled strings here. Her music reflects the nature of modern everyday-life, our trials and tribulations, hopes and loves. Izzi has also charmed the cream of the UK music scene with her talents: Roots Manuva and Gorillaz are just a two of those who have benefited.

Bashy - In Bashy we have discovered a 360 degree artist and a personality who exudes star quality. Bashy has received rapturous applause for his Electric Proms performance, gracing No.10 Downing street for meetings with the Prime Minister as an Ambassador for the ‘No To Knives’ campaign, writing the soundtrack to the award winning Noel Clarke film ‘Adulthood’, which grossed millions at the box office, and received a 2008 MOBO nomination. His debut album Catch Me If You Can perfectly encapsulates how hip-hop has become the world’s local music. Every element of his delivery from his lyrical dexterity to the video production is sharp, with none of the raw presentation synonymous with the Grime/Hip-Hop scene.

DJ Luck and MC Neat - If there were an award for services to UK Garage, the hyper productive London pair would win one of those too. As the scene they loved exploded, Luck and Neat have turned into a two man United Nations Of Garage, bridging scenes and showing that the raw and the smooth can co-exist beautifully. They’ve represented global garage from Germany to Miami and beyond. They’ve found that place everyone wants to get to, between the underground and the wide-open high streets.
