Pee Froiss - Freedom Bar, London, 28 June '06

Live and Direct from Senegal, “Africa’s answer to Public Enemy” — Pee Froiss — with support from king of the UK dancehall Swel Daag and from Zimbabwe’s DKR plus DJs Heatwave, Eric Soul and Ilka

Pee Froiss
Since forming in Dakar in 1993, Pee Froiss have absorbed the pillars of hip-hop and reggae only to better integrate them into a distinctly African blend. Their lyrics, delivered in a mix of Wolof, French and English, reflect the flavour of a post-colonial nation state and celebrate its vibrancy. Dubbed “Senegal’s answer to Public Enemy,” the two MCs, Xuman and Kocc 6, are aided and abetted by DJ Gee Bayss’ sure-fire turntablism.

Gracing stages from Cape Town to Ouagadougou, the trio stepped up to the international arena with their album ‘Konkerants’ (Night & Day), released in 2002, as well as featuring on ‘African Conscience’ (2003) alongside Sizzla and Dead Prez.

Swel Daag

Combining reggae dancehall, hip-hop, garage and r’n’b flavours he has created his own distinctive sound that is instantly catchy while at the same time fresh and heartfelt. His hit song ‘Swel D dubble A G’ has been riding high on the Channel U Top Ten, whilst also receiving radio support from Ras Kwame (Radio 1 / 1xtra), as well as from DJs on Kiss and Choice FM.

DKR
DKR which stands for ‘Divided Kingdom Republic’ is made up by Munyaradzi Nota and Kudzi Mambara, both born in Harare, Zimbabwe, and currently based in London. Their track ‘DK Anthem’ is featured on the CD/DVD compilation Afrolution Vol. 1 - The Original African Hip-Hop Collection (out on Afrolution Records on 26 June 2006).

DJs Eric Soul, Heatwave and Ilka
Mixing Afro, hip-hop, broken beat, reggaeton and bashment, DJs on this night will keep the party gwaaning till the early morning.
