From this line-up you can expect dubstep, detroit techno, garage, breaks from a mix of producers, radio Dj’s and label owners who come together to explore the soulful side or experimental music for the dancefloor - be prepared for: Pangaea (Hessle Audio / Rinse FM) is not only establishing himself as a strking Dj, but also a thoughtful producer as well as co-owner of Leeds based alternative dubstep imprint, Hessle Audio alongsde Ben UfO and Ramadanman. Expect to hear dubstep with a bounce n’ harmony, as well as the deeper side of uk Garage and detroit techno. With a self titled debut EP currently on the racks he’s already a regular on the Gilles Peterson show “heavy new tunes” tracklistings. Lukid (Werk Discs) :: A fan of woozy synths expect the sounds surrounding Can, Madlib, Theo Parrish and Autechre. Lukid has put out an LP and EP under Actrsses London based imprint Werk Discs. Lukid plays psychedelic experimental beats that march into a twisted out bounce; check out UStream every Monday at 2100 (Also search out Mr. Beatnick, “the Arthur Russell of broken beat” (BTW, he was joking). the bPm (Hold Box Flat / Soul Jazz) :: Schooled between Soul Jazz Records, Brownswood Recordings and Gilles Peterson, the bPm brings a dark interpretation to the worldwide sound. Throwing together non-genre specific beats from across the experimental underground. bPm has been found in basements, clubs, dancehalls, beaches spinning records alongside Ramadanman, Charlie Dark, Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Gilles Peterson, Laurent Garnier. Simbad (DeJa Vu) is a wizard behind the mixing desk and with an album out on Raw Fusion Supersonic Revelations, Simbad has sytamped out an identity as a DJ with the ability to work crowds from all over the world. Expect the soulful side of dance and experimental music, right across dubstep, hip hop and house. When cobining forces with Karizma he can be identified as Izmabad (as most recently seen on the remix of José James’ ‘Blackmagic’) and finishing various projects from Japan to Puerto Rico via NYC whilst preparing a brand new solo album as we type (so to speak). And last but not least, Mamiko Motto who, when not bouncing around the world with her planet moon partner Hudson ‘Butter’ Mohawke, has been busy with our favourites of the spaceways, Build An Ark (see HERE the interview with leader Carlos Niño and the album Love Part 1) . Mamiko Motto plays oozing LA beats alongside edgy eastern breaks. Check out HepCat radio where her guests have included Actress, James Pants and the LuckyMe Crew. For more on Mamiko Motto on FLY’s exclusive with MamikO, the Beat Generation Special and the HepCat Radio link below. Sounds like a proper session to me. Links: |
