Favourite Things At Proud (Re-launch 28th April 2008) |

It’s true! As from 28th April the only place to be on a Monday night is with Wah Wah 45s Dom Servini and the protege Jazzman (and joint compiler Spiritual Jazz - Esoteric, Modal And Deep Jazz From The Underground 1968-77, Soundway, Sofrito, Impossible Ark Records and star of La Linea ‘08, miestro DJ, Hugo Mendez. And it that wasn’t enough, there’s also the live house band, The Favourite Things Quartet of with saxophonist Jake Telford (Ok-Ma), Akwasi Mensa (keyboards), Graham Silbiger (bass), Tansay Omar (drums) along with guest vocalists and other musicians for a promised late night jam session. Jessica Lauren turned up when Ben saw them at the Wah Wah 45s Night at Cargo last year so be prepared for some quality. What’s the latest with the Wah Wah 45s crew? Well, I had the pleasure of Mr. Servini selling me the first issue of Shook at If… Music (which I then lost and went back for another copy when Mr. Soul Blender Aaron Jerome served me!) and he told me he’s busy with releases by Scimshire (with remix by Aaron) and new 7s from James Finlay and Hardkandy. Not only that, there’s two Wah Wah 45s Live nights at teh Jazz Cafe with an album launch party for Hardkandy’s Second To None (21st June) and the Middlewood Sessions with full jazz arkestra on July 26th. Looks like loads of fun to me and I’ll probably be at the front of the queue to get in; I certainly was at the first versions (see review HERE with my Favourite Things 10). Links |
