The occupation has so far cost the lives of 500,000 native Papuans, but because of multi-national mining interests and arms deals between the US, UK and Indonesia, Western governments are turning a blind eye to this ongoing genocide. Set over two rooms with an outside space too, live performances will be coming from ex Fela Kuti band member Dele Sosimi, appearing with his critically acclaimed Afrobeat Orchestra! Also on the bill is the sensational Brazilian steel band Maracatu, as well as London blues head Errol Linton, and Maria Wenda — a native West Papuan refugee from the Lani tribe in the Papuan highlands. DJ sets will come from Mixmaster Morris (Ninja Tune), global club and music producer Rita Ray (The Shrine) and Russ Jones of Future World Funk. Extras will include capoeira performances, fire displays, visuals, human rights projections and comedy sketches, as well global munchies and DJs spinning everything from dub reggae to Latin. There will be a live streaming of the event online at www.piratetv.net from 2200 GMT All proceeds from the evening are going directly to West Papuan refugee support programmes through the Free West Papua Campaign www.freewestpapua.org Tickets available from ticketweb priced at £8 advance |

I had no idea about the situation in West Papua. This sounds like a great night for a worthy cause
