Haiti Earthquake Fundraiser - Roundhouse, Camden 25.02.10

It goes without saying what this is all about this is a good cause but it’s just been announced that KT Tunstall, Paul Weller and Reverend & The Makers are the latest acts to be added to Haiti Earthquake Fundraiser’s star-studded line up

Following on from the Bigga Fish Haiti Relief Showcase, this one is set to fill London’s Roundhouse on Thursday 25th February with a night of music and comedy to raise thousands for the aid work in Haiti.

The full line-up for this month’s Haiti Earthquake Fundraiser gala Roundhouse concert has now been announced with KT Tunstall, Paul Weller (last seen on The Moons’ Life On Earth) and Reverend & The Makers joining Bombay Bicycle Club, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Magic Numbers, Mr Hudson, Othello Woolf, Seasick Steve and The Futureheads on the bill to support of the humanitarian aid efforts of both ActionAid and Médecins Sans Frontières.

Due to overwhelming support from acts and artists, the organisers have boosted the Roundhouse line-up with The Hoosiers and some of 2010’s hottest breakthrough acts such as Charlotte O’Connor, Example, The Strangeways and Stornoway confirmed for a sister event at Camden’s Proud Galleries. Taking over the popular Queens of Noize night, Smash & Grab, revellers will have a second option of great music and comedy.

100% of money raised through the Fundraiser will be donated directly to ActionAid and Médecins Sans Frontières to support their work saving and re-building the lives of those affected by the Haiti earthquake.

To make sure that concern for Haiti is kept firmly in the public eye in the run up to the event, 53 videos of support from high profile figures from Rt Hon. Ben Bradshaw MP (Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport) and Rt Hon. David Cameron MP (Leader of the Opposition) to Coldplay, Jack Peñate, Paloma Faith and Charlie Brooker will be recorded to mark the 53 days between the day the earthquake struck and the day stars will take to the Roundhouse
stage.

The videos will be appearing at www.haitiearthquakefundraiser.com
“This is the best ticket you’ll buy all year” Chris Martin, Coldplay.
“We’re appealing to all music fans to get involved”, comments organiser Katrina Larkin. “Sign up, join in and give as much as you can. Absolutely every little penny helps.”

Statements
“We are delighted that ActionAid has been chosen as a beneficiary of the Haiti Earthquake fundraiser. We are sure it’s going to be an inspiring event. The earthquake has been a complete tragedy for Haiti. Now is the time to help, both through donations and through events such as this, helping us to provide emergency care and rebuild lives in the longterm. The earthquake has been a brutal reminder of the force of nature, but also of the capacity of mankind to ease the suffering of others in their hour of need.”
Richard Turner, Fundraising Director at ActionAid

“On behalf of our patients, our international medical volunteers and our Haitian staff we would like to thank you. By organising the Haiti Earthquake Fundraiser At The Roundhouse you are showing incredible initiative and compassion. Your hard work compliments that of our medical who are working 24 hours a day to save the injured in Haiti. So far we have treated over 1,500 people; people with burns; people with broken bones and head injuries; people in need of amputations as gangrene sets in; children orphaned by the earthquake. The numbers affected are incomprehensible. But each one of you is helping one or more of them, in their greatest
hour of need. And MSF is sincerely grateful to you.”
James Kliffen - Head of Fundraising, Médecins Sans Frontières

Just over a month ago, Haiti was devastated by an earthquake - over 2 million desperately need of food assistance to rebuild their lives. The World Food Programme was there before the quake, and they’ll be there afterwards. If you want to help you should go to: http://wfp.org/crisis/haiti or text FRIENDS to 90999 to make a $5 donation
