Joell Ortiz - Carling Academy Islington, 28 March '08 |
|||||||
|
Joell Ortiz is the most exciting rapper to emerge from New York since 50 Cent. Born in 1980 in the Cooper Housing Project in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the ex-basketball player has been signed by Dr Dre to his Aftermath label following the successful release of The Brick (The Bodega Chronicles) on Koch Records. London being one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, with a growing and very active Latino community, has one of the largest Latin music scenes outside of the Americas and following the success of London’s reggaeton rave La Bomba, the promoters, Jose Luis & DJ Zorro of Fired Up Entertainment have joined forces with hip hop promoters Kung Fu (Fabric Live, Puerto Rico) to launch Latin hip hop event La Raza at the Carling Islington Academy. The night promises to fuse hip hop street culture with the friendly vibe of the Latino rave to create the sexiest block party outside of the Bronx. Joell Ortiz will be supported by London’s most rated Latin hip hop outfit Cultura Londres and backed up by hip hop DJ’s Sarah Love (Radio 1 Xtra/Kung Fu) and El Moreno (La Bomba/Bar Rumba).
