London International Ska Festival - 21-24.04.11

If you were annoyed at missing the first London International Ska Festival, don’t worry as it’s back bigger and better than ever.

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

The place to be is the Clapham Grand Theatre next month for 4 days of full on ska with no less than 22 bands and 10 DJ favourites and much more planned.

Showcasing the finest global talent from the Jamaican originators, the 2-Tone revival to current 21st century ska there is something for everyone. Headlining legends are Ken Booth, Bob & Marcia and reuniting for the first time since the 70s, the double barrel pairing of Dave & Ansel Collins.

From the UK, there’s The Beat (aka The English Beat) featuring the original driving force of the band, Dave Wakeling (best known for their hits from the first album including ‘Mirror In The Bathroom’ that was recently covered by Belleruche) and another one of our favourites, Sunday Best’s Dub Pistols.

Added to all this is a massive line up of DJs, from club specialists to band cameos, radio disc jockeys to JA legends, including Clive Chin, boss of Jamaica’s vital Impact!/Randys Records that celebrating the labels 50th anniversary (if you don’t know about Mr. Chin, check out his interview with Zoë’ Baxter that was broadcast on Resonance FM a couple of weeks ago; and there’s some special download mp3s on his myspace site - see links below), Linval Golding (The Specials), Mark Lamarr, Gaz Mayall (the lead vocalist and melodica player for The Trojans and compiler of many a ska CD, with the fantastic Gaz’s Rockin Blues), Rhoda “The Boiler” Dakar (Bodysnatchers/Special AKA), Wrongtom’s Ska Revue (as in last years’ Roots Manuva meets Wrongtom and many more.

As they say, “From its birth in Jamaica, Ska has come along way, morphing and inspiring every generation and reaching all corners of the world to form a rich tapestry so important to our musical history. This April we will once again be welcoming back to London this celebration of the wonderful world of SKA in all it’s colourful guises” - looks like a big one.
