LoveDifference Festival - 7, 20 & 28 Sept08 (London, Northampton, Bristol)

Like a far flung Triptych, LoveDifference Festival celebrates Eastern European Cultures in unique day-long mini-festivals in London, Northampton and Bristol to mark the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.

The idea is to bring the best contemporary music, video, art and film from the UK and Europe to three diverse English towns and cities, each of which has a unique recent experience of European immigration.

Joining in are two of the UK’s most exciting acts, fresh from the Big Chill Festival The Blessing and Sunday Best Recordings’ next big thing, Christopher D. Ashley. These guys are joined by acts from Eastern Europe such as Muzykoterapia (Poland), Ohm Square (Czech Republic) along with artists, writers and filmmakers such as T.S. Eliot prize-winning poet George Szirtes (Hungary/UK), legendary British filmmaker Ken Loach and Polish artist Joanna Rajkowska (famous for installing a palm tree on Jerusalem Avenue in Warsaw).

Have you heard of Christopher D. Ashley? Well you might have heard his single ‘We Are Shining’ but the album Cruel Romantics was pigeonholed as synth-pop. Don’t let that put you off as Mr. Ashley’s “neoeighties electropop” is closer to techno, funk and boogie a la Jamie Liddell (‘We Ain’t Through’) and electronic noodlings like Future Loop Foundation (‘Snow White’). Be prepared to be impressed by both acts.

So if you’re up for being inspired and open to increased understanding of European cultures and arts, food and lifestyles all at the same time, LoveDifference Festival is a date for your diary with political discussions (1pm-3pm), video art and discussions (4pm - 7pm) and cultural discussions before the music starts at 9pm:

Cargo-London
Music (9pm onwards):
Ohm Square have played their electro alternative pop alongside the likes of Lou Reed and Fat Boy Slim and are due to release their second album TakingShape in the UK. Based in Prague, a collaboration of an English singer and three Czech producer/musicians, Ohm Square name themselves after the unit of measurement for electrical resistance www.myspace.com/ohmsquare

The Invisible (UK) masterful purveyors of melodramatic and intense hypnotic rock will also be performing, representing the UK’s homegrown music scene alongside Ohm Square’s Euro magic. www.myspace.com/theinvisiblethree

LoveDifference is a FREE one-day mini-festival organised by European Alternatives (www.euroalter.com) as part of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue - check www.lovedifference.eu for updates.
