Nils Petter Molvaer - Queen Elizabeth Hall, 22 Feb '09

Norwegian trumpet player, composer and producer Nils Petter Molvær has been sharing his conception of jazz for the best part of 20 years and his appearance at QEH is the gig of the year todate!

Nils Petter Molvær has been connecting multiple music styles - jazz, ambient, house, electronic and break beats, as well as elements from hip hop, rock and pop music - and effortlessly melts them into convincing soundscapes of deep intensity. Fans of the Re-Vision from a couple of years ago will recall the track ‘Leaps And Bounds’ that featured the vocals of the traditional Kurdish singer Nizamettin Arıç. Nils’ latest album Hamada (released in Norway on his own Sula Records) is due for full European release now; hence the tour. With a reputation live for blending music and lighting into a breathtaking experience, this is going to be a blast.

As a musician that must have worked with hundreds of others over the years, to support NPM is a great privilege. And this time it’s Sing Sing Penelope who get the nod. Established in Poland in 2001 by young musicians playing in key Polish and European jazz, avant-garde and chamber contemporary projects. The band, who are connected to the legendary Club ‘Brain’ from Bydgoszcz, have created a fresh, modern, electro-acoustic style and musical language. They have just released a new live album featuring one of the greatest European trumpet players, Andrzej Przybielski, who has recorded with the likes of Tomasz Stanko, Krzysztof Komeda, Czeslaw Niemen and SBB.

The Queen Elizabeth Hall is the second largest concert hall on Southbank Centre site, hosting chamber orchestras, quartets, choirs, dance performances and opera. As well as the main concert hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall also contains two smaller venues, the Purcell Room and The Front Room at the QEH.
