Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty - London

Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty will be performing in London on the 31st July at the Bhavan Centre accompanied by Sri Subhasis Bhattacharya and Sri Anol Chatterjee

pandit ajoy chakrabarty

Panditji is one of the most talented and versatile vocalists of India. His music career flourished under the guidance of Pandit Gyan Prakash Ghosh. In 1971, he became a disciple of Ustad Munawar Ali Khan, the son of the great Patiala Gharana Maestro Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan.

His expanded knowledge of Indian music is clearly heard through his wide repertoire of music ranging from Raga music, through to Bhajans and film music. He has made Raga music universal to all, through his devotion to the subject as well as the expression of human emotions through his mellifluous voice. He was the first Indian classical vocalist who was invited to perform in Pakistan . As his musical genius prompts him to respect and cultivate all kinds of good music he has been proving his unique excellence in various genres of Indian music. Hence he received the President’s Award for the best male playback singer in the 37th National Film Festival and many other State Awards. His voice has appeared on many films ranging from Gadar to Taj mahal, and Deepa Mehta’s Water.

He was invited to perform for the jubilee celebrations by the BBC and recently performed at the well known jazz festival in New Orleans , USA and to an audience of 10,000 at India Gate. He has established “Shrutinandan” a vocal institution designed to impart practical knowledge of Indian music to musically gifted children and genuine music lovers.

Accompanying Artists:
Sri Subhasis Bhattacharya
Subhasis Bhattacharya is a new but beaming signature in the scores of Indian Music. Subhasis is training under the great table maestro Pandit Anindo Chattopadhyay of national and international fame. Subhasis has not only had the opportunities of accompanying Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty on the tabla in his many vocal recitals in India and abroad, he has also played on the tabla and other Indian drums in many of Panditji’s CDs and cassettes as well. His elder brother Shri Debasis Bhattacharya a classical slide guitarist acclaimed equally in east and west has largely contributed to his success as a soloist of Indian classical instrumental music performing across the globes, with the likes of Shakti and Bob Brozman.

Sri Anol Chatterjee
Anol is a talented student of Panditji. He recently won the national scholarship in vocal music in Delhi, earlier this year. He regularly performs in India, as well as teaching at Shrutinandan. He has assisted Panditji’s tours in the UK before, and is a keen and inspiring performer/teacher to the younger generation in India and abroad.
