Rootikal with David Ram Jam Rodigan - East Village 5th April

It doesn’t seem 5 minutes ago that Kiss100 released the double compilation celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Rodigan but the reggae expert is still as enthusiastic as ever and in a couple of weeks he’ll be at the album launch of his latest compilaton Real Authentic Reggae Vol. 2 compilation on BBE records.

On Sunday the 5th of April, the Rootikal at East Village will see the return of David ‘Ram Jam’ Rodigan (the ‘Ram Jam’ taken from the track of the same name by Jackie Mittoo).

With over 30 years as a broadcaster on Radio London, Capital Radio, Kiss and British Forces Broadcasting Service, he has been a champion of the many sounds of reggae. The music contained in his latest compilation, Real Authentic Reggae Vol. 2 covers over forty years of musical production and reflects David’s broad taste and deep knowledge. It includes many rare collector’s classics like Augustus Pablo’s ‘No Entry’ and Simplicity People’s ‘Shock Shentetacky’.

To celebrate the CD release, Rodigan will be appearing at East Village on 5th April with the the Rootikal residents Earl Gateshead, David Hill, Stuart Patterson and Mr Faso.

Earl, last seen on FLY at the Big Chill House watching Aidrian Sherwood, also has a track record of playing reggae nearly as long as Rodigan himself. Now travelling the World as chief selector with the Trojan Sound System. David is an ex-Ballistic Brother and founder of the Nuphonic label, he also worked on the Auralux reggae label re-mastering and reissuing he productions of King Jammys, Lee Perry and Junjo Lawes.

Paterson is known DJ with a broad taste in many dance music styles (particularly house with Faith collective and ) and will be part of this major reggae session alongside J-Star, Mr Faso and Nick B. You’re promised “No slackness only positivity” with an early 2pm with quality Sunday roasts to be joined by a special jerk chicken for the occasion.
