Simon Says... (Simon Goss Celebration) Jazz Cafe 25.03.10

On Friday January 8th, Simon Goss, the Daddy of the Wah Wah 45s record label, was sadly taken from us at the mere age of 44. Simon, the creator and owner of Wah Wah and the big man who rocked many a Wah Wah session, died within just 3 months of receiving his lung cancer diagnosis.

Not surprisingly, the greater Wah Wah 45’s family have organised an event to celebrate his life that was full of musical goodness and to raise money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Back in the day he was a regular at Radio Saturn and like true gentleman and enthusiast he was, along with Dom Servini released some great music on Wah Wah 45s that we we’re always keen to support; check out the quality of Wah Wah 45’s - Underground Hits and Exclusive Bits and Wah Wah 45s - Underground Hits and Exclusive Bits 2!

And a host of Simon’s favourite artists, to party hard like The Daddy would have wanted, and raise a whole heap of money for this brilliant charity in the process. A jam packed bill with feature Wah Wah 45’s songstress Stac, Tru Thoughts recordings’ Belleruche, the incredible vocal talent of Bridgette Amofah (who featured on My Life At 33, much lauded spoken word artist Polarbear, blue-eyed soul boys Talc, Acid Jazz recording artists The Filthy Six, and our latest discovery, the furious brass power of The Hackney Colliery Band.

Not only that, but Simon’s young and very gifted sons will be leading the way with their own Wah Wah 45s Players, and like everyone else, will be performing some of Simon’s favourite numbers. Add to this a DJ line-up that includes Bonobo, London Elektricity and your favourite Wah Wah DJs (along with a couple of special guests from overseas) and you’ve got one enormous line-up, one big celebration, for one very good cause indeed.

Simon was known for the warmth and compassion he extended to all, his wonderful sense of humour, his belief in new music and young artists and of course his uniquely eclectic DJ sets, he will be sorely missed.

Live:
The Hackney Colliery Band, The Filthy Six, Talc, Polarbear, The Wah Wah 45s Players
Bridgette Amofah, Stac, Belleruche
DJs: Bonobo, London Elektricity, Snorre Seim (Butti 49, Norway), Chris Goss, Dom Servini, Scrismhire, Part-Time Heroes, Capstone, Adrian Gibson
