Yep, it was The Black Seeds who were Karen P’s surprise guests at Cargo’s …Broadcasting (see interview with Karen HERE and review of her album …Broadcasting. With the new album coming out in a couple of months, called Solid Ground, hopefully the hot weather will toughen it up for them on their summer tour.

They’ve got some corkin’ gigs lined up including Groove Armada’s Lovebox (with Goldfrapp, fresh from Glastonbury Manu Chao and Horse Meat Disco and many, many more), the Rip Curl Boardmasters (lets hope the the surf is more like 2005 than the rubbish last year) and the always excellent Bloom Festival (see last year’s line up HERE).

I think you will agree that this is a big step up from the end of Bournemouth Pier last year (see HERE) or even at London Astoria (with Eva Be as support last year). Whilst we wait for the new album to come out, it’s a good idea to get out their Into The Dojo release of last year. It’s a long way from Wellington, New Zealand, but this a band (and a good time), not to be missed.

To coincide with the tour, on Monday, Sonar Kollektiv released a 2-track digital single as an album preview. ‘Slingshot’ is typical of their reggae based soul/funk romp “with a deep groove and a wailing saxophone solo”. On the ‘digital’ other side ‘Shazzy Dub’ originally appeared on their On The Sun album from 2004 and I can assure you, they’ve lost none of their horny excellence in since.
