UNKLE/The Heritage Orchestra - Union Chapel, London

Along with the release of the limit collector’s edition CD of UNKLE’s End Titles…Redux on 14th December, there’s a special performance with everyone’s favourite, The Heritage Orchestra on the 18th at the famous Union Chapel in Islington.

The album features seven new ‘re-interpretation’ from the album End Titles…Stories for Film plus two new tracks and ‘Trouble in Paradise (Variation on Time)’.

The gig on December 18th is The Heritage Orchesta performance of the album’ at Union Chapel that’s a charity event in aid of Margins Project, Union Chapel’s in-house charity for people who are homeless in London. This UNKLE-Variation on Theme live performance is right up their musical street as UNKLE always had a ‘big’ sound and the Heritage Orchestra were ‘designed’ for this type of gig (as evidenced previously with Chris Bowden, Amon Tobin and The Bays this year; particularly at the Big Chill Festival; see Jazz Britannia where it all started with conductor Jules Buckley).

The original album was called End Titles… Stories for Film’ but UNKLE have reworked with an emphasis on the instrumental with the orchestral parts, re-arranged and remixed to produce a new work. They’ve done this by transcribing the studio produced music ‘by ear’ as orchestrations merge synths with strings, beats with brass, and transfer samples to percussion. The orchestra will also perform pieces from 1998’s Psyence Fiction album released on Mo Wax’, 2004’s Never, Never Land and will also be joined by UNKLE and guest singers Gavin Clark, Lisa Linley Jones, Joel Cadbury and James Lavelle.

And not only that, there’s a half-ton transforming-light-form-installation created by Warren Du Preez and Nick Thornton Jones who are regarded as two of the photographic industry’s leading influential creative’s and innovators in contemporary image making

All this and a worthy seasonal cause, Marginalised is a charity event produced by Union Chapel and Arctic Circle in aid of and supporting Margins Project, Union Chapel’s in-house charity for people who are homeless or in crisis in London - see links below for further details.
