5 Years Of Great Stuff shows off what a great label Great Stuff Recordings continues to be with a wealth of old and new releases and artists on their books that in a mere 5 years are now established as one of the most powerful labels in dance music.

Starting out with a few tracks by founding member Tomcraft, the British duo Coburn and Iceland’s GusGus that got them going lead onto highly acclaimed album releases by Gregor Tresher, Butch (with Papillon), Coburn, Ramon Mini Jack Tapia and Luetzenkirchen along with numerous international underground club hits; some that even hit the single charts like Coburn’s ‘We Interrupt This Program’, The Egg’s ‘Walking Away’ (Tocadisco Remix) and Mason’s massive ‘Exceeder’.

The double CD 5 Years Of Great Stuff is a perfect retrospect and outlook of the divers sound of Great Stuff: Tomcraft and Lützenkirchen provide a brilliant mix on CD1 that goes through the back catalogue with their Best Of Great Stuff mix: 35 classics mixed, mashed up and edited, from left to right, from the big classics including our favourites from the Roots Editions (‘No Government’, ‘Torch’ and the Rockers Hi-Fi classic ‘Push Push’) to the very latest tunes. Not quite the complexity of Joris Voorn’s Balance 014 but just as effective; if not more so.

But wait for this GSR fans, CD2 is an exclusive collection of brand new versions from the current Great Stuff artists, remixing their respective favourites out of the GSR Catalogue! How good is that, you know, absolutely essential; especially with Rainer Weichhold getting in on the ‘Push Push’ remix (see our archive interview with Rainer HERE).

And as clubland continually evolves, Great Stuff keeps raising the bar trying out new concepts like Great Carnival Stuff and last years’ Great Summergames Stuff that was released to coincide with the Olympic Games 2008. Never ones to let the beer seep out of the cellar, it’s great news to hear that later this year they’ll be releasing another theme compilation, Great Oktoberfest Stuff featuring the very best music out of Bavaria.
