Youssou’s mix of traditional Senegalese music, with eclectic influences ranging from Cuban samba to hip hop, jazz and soul, has won him an international fan base of millions.

In the early 1970s N’Dour was performing regularly with Super Etoile de Dakar, Dakar’s most popular group. He then went on to conquer the rest of the world, collaborating with the likes of Wyclef Jean, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel and Tracy Chapman. In 1994 his single ‘7 Seconds’ gave him a massive hit single which still receives radio play today. The New York Times have described his voice as an “arresting tenor, a supple weapon deployed with prophetic authority”. He recently performed at two of the largest live events in history — the 2005 Live8 concerts in the UK and France.
