Roachford - The Best Sex Ever

“It feels natural and I never forget how lucky I am”, says Roachford

Roachford released his first single ‘Cuddly Toy and Family Man’ back in the late 1980s, and the then Andrew Roachford was offered a major seven album deal with Columbia Records. This signing launched his career.

Every time I make an album I want to bring something different to the project

Roachford, says “Well I come from a very musical family so I started learning to play the piano at four years of age and before I left school I was already working in my Uncle’s (Bill Roachford) band. He taught me so much about performing live.”

He continues, “I grew up in London where there is such a diverse cultural mix of music going on, so when I started to write my own songs I had so much different influences in my music. I got signed to Sony Music and my first album went gold in England and America, so I’ve spent a lot of my life touring.”

In 2007, Roachford released an album called Word Of Mouth, it had the sounds of pop and rock, which he is known for during the 80s. UK independent label M3 Records, released it, but he also signed to German based label Peppermint Jam Records, which is also home to UK soul artist Omar.

Roachford says, “Omar is such a talented artist, we both live in South London and plan to make some tunes together soon,” Roachford speaks about the creative process of Word Of Mouth.

“Every time I make an album I want to bring something different to the project, so it was great to work with mousse T and the team of producers he brought to the table (Franz so phat Plaza and Andreas boogieman), we all had a vision of the album being soulful and contemporary sounding.”

Roachford also admits, “Of course! It’s been fun to perform the new songs.”

“The best sex ever!”, on his performing. Some don’t realise that Roachford or Andrew Roachford is too a musician and poet, as well as singer/songwriter. In return, he has toured over the last two years, in Europe and Australia.

“Music (just like people) is constantly changing and evolving, with each new generation comes a new angle on making music. I believe the music business is becoming its own worst enemy because they don’t seem to want to take time to develop real albums by real artists and then they wonder why people don’t buy as much albums anymore!”, says Roachford.

“I think I listen to most of my music in my car, but I love seeing a good live show. At the moment I’m listening to a lot of unsigned artist on my space, there is so much great unsigned artists out there!.”

Roachford admits, “I think we are living in a very intense time but sometimes I wish the media would focus on some of the positive things happening around the world. I guess that’s not news!” And on his favorite Roachford/Andrew Roachford albums?

He says, “It’s hard to say, they are all very different albums.”

Insightfully Roachford says, “I made the first few albums very much with the guys I used to tour with (Derrick Taylor, Hawie Gondwe, and Chris Taylor), now I have a much more personal feel to the albums.”

Roachford is not the only UK under-rated vocalist, as you get many having to head over to the USA for any taste of success.

Artists such as Caron Wheeler of Soul II Soul, or Amy Winehouse, or even Joss Stone. “I love Lemar he has a great classic soul voice, Mica Paris is amazing. Omar, Beverly Knight, and of course the late great Lynden David Hall, who is the man.”
